MCLEAN, VIRGINIA, JULY 2021 – Richard Peck, Toastmasters International President, visited PMIWDC #01 as part of his year-long virtual world tour. Fifteen club members and five guests, who hold various leadership positions at the district level, attended this special meeting.
Richard generously shared insights from his world tour, which includes 161 Toastmasters club visits. PMIWDC #01 is honored to be one of only two clubs in the United States included thus far. From this visit, PMIWDC #01 learned about the importance of cultural awareness and what makes each club so unique.
Richard served as a General Evaluator for the meeting and gave the attendees valuable tips on meeting logistics and improving on the small details such as better lighting to show facial expressions, setting up technology in advance to ensure better coordination between visual aid and the speech, as well as using a PowerPoint presentation as the virtual background when giving a speech virtually to bypass potential technical challenges and for enhancing the presentation.
Richard complimented PMIWDC #01 for running a high-quality meeting and was impressed by the flow of the agenda. As a General Evaluator, Richard gave some suggestions for the club to consider for making future meetings more effective. His recommendations included adding the speakers’ names and titles to the evaluators’ section of the agenda for ease of navigation. He also suggested that including the meeting agenda in Zoom’s chat section will be helpful to attendees.
At the end of the meeting, he asked PMIWDC #01 for written notes from club members on what makes this club special, which he intends to include in his travel journal to be published and shared with Toastmasters International.
This is one Toastmasters meeting, no one will ever forget.
